3D Animation

An exploration of looping 3D animation in Cinema 4D, developed through the Get into 3D with Lucas Zanotto course and a series of character variations, timing studies, and f-curve experiments.

What I learnt

I enrolled myself on Get into 3D with Lucas Zanotto to extend what I could create. I had modelled 3D objects before; I wanted to learn how to animate them too. Working in Cinema 4D, I practised timing, f-curves and looping movement, then used character variations to explore how those technical choices change the feeling of an animation.

character variations

Learning through character studies.

Cinema 4D / Motion variations

These exercises grew from the course: repeating a simple movement, adjusting its timing and exploring new character treatments. The aim was to build confidence in animating in three dimensions as well as modelling in them.

One exercise, different personalities.

Small changes, different personalities

The loop variations let me compare how shape, colour and movement work together. Repeating the exercise helped me build a wider set of tools for future motion work.

Process

From model to movement
01

Learn the loop

Used the Lucas Zanotto course to understand Cinema 4D timing, f-curves, and the discipline of a seamless loop.

02

Test the character

Created variations on the lesson character to see how small changes in pose, scale, and rhythm alter its personality.

03

Find the feeling

Refined the motion until the technical exercise started to feel like a small piece of visual storytelling.
